Happy Saint David's Day - Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus! Here at Your South Wales Wedding, we wanted to celebrate the patron saint of Wales with a special newsletter. Saint David was born in Caerfai, Pembrokeshire, into an aristocratic family. He travelled to Cornwall, Britanny, Ireland and Jerusalem, spreading the word of Christianity and was eventually made an archbishop. He also founded 12 monasteries, and his foundation at Glyn Rhosyn became an important Christian shrine.

For centuries, 1st March has been a national festival, where we see St David's flag proudly on display. The traditional festivities include eating traditional Welsh food and wearing daffodils and leeks to remember when St David advised warriors to wear a leek during the battle with the Saxons.

There are several parades happening this week to celebrate. The St David's Day Parade will be held in Cardiff on the 1st March from 12:30pm. The St David's Day Run is set to take place virtually until 14th March, and there will be a concert on 4th March at the Royal College of Music.

We hope you have a lovely day however you choose to celebrate.

Have your cake AND eat it!

Kasey Clarke, Founder of Sweet Cakey Thing, explains how certain ingredients used in baking can actually be better for your skin compared to some moisturisers, leaving your skin looking hydrated and glowing. We all dreamt of smothering ourselves in cake as a child, yet even then, that sort of behaviour wouldn't go down too well at the dinner table. However, founder of Sweet Cakey Thing, Kasey Clarke, is here to explain why covering ourselves in cake is absolutely a good thing, as long as the ingredients are too. Here, she shares seven baking ingredients, which will help keep skin nourished and hydrated, making your skincare routine a piece of cake, literally.

Celebrate St David's Day with MamGu Welsh Cakes

We're a patriotic bunch here in Wales and love nothing more than an opportunity to celebrate our heritage, none more so than on St. David's Day. To mark the day, the Welsh not only wear a daffodil or a leek as a symbol of their nationality, but also feast on traditional fare including cawl and the humble Welsh cake – a type of sweet bread with sugar and dried fruit, popular since the 19th century.

Becky Hood and Thea Noble, founders of MamGu Welsh Cakes based in Solva, Pembrokeshire, know everything there is to know about Welsh cakes. A vibrant business creating Welsh foods with 14 flavours of Welsh cakes being the heart of their business.

Melissa Barker visits the Vale Resort and Hensol Castle

Following (far too) many lockdowns and ever-changing restrictions, I hadn't been able to travel to South Wales for more than a year; so when the Vale Resort in Hensol invited me to come visit, I jumped at the chance. My fiancé, Dave, and I adore South Wales and were really excited to see the area and explore the hotel. Dave and I started our stay in true style with a gin tour at Hensol Castle, located just outside of Cardiff, in the heart of the beautiful Vale of Glamorgan countryside. I had heard about the new distillery located in the cellars of the 17th-century castle and was excited to see it for myself.
