Travelodge survey shows 2020 is the year of the staycation

From coast destinations to countryside retreats, the UK has it all meaning it's the perfect country for the ultimate staycation while the travel industry continues to recover from this year's pandemic.
   

A new travel report out this month has revealed travel trends are changing with the rise of Britons taking looking to holiday and minimoon in the UK this year, and it's a trend that looks set to stay in to 2021 and beyond!

The study conducted by Travelodge surveyed 2,000 British adults and key findings revealed that 42% of Britons have swapped a long holiday for several short breaks throughout this year.

A staggering 64% of Britons are taking on average two Minications in 2020 with the average trip costing £281 – giving the UK economy a boost of £24 billion. Whilst 22% of Britons are taking up to six UK short breaks this year and will boost the UK economy by £25 billion. Taking a jaunt to the seaside is Britons top type of short break with 41% of us flocking to the coast this year for a Minication. The top coastal locations for a Mincation in 2020 include: Cornwall, Devon, North Wales, Whitby and the Isle of Wight.

The second most popular type of short break is exploring Britain's glorious countryside with 32% of Britons taking a rural break this year.
The nation's top rural short break locations for 2020 include: The Lake District, Cotswolds, Scottish Highlands, Yorkshire Dales and the Peak District. 

In third place is a city break with 29% of Culture Vultures exploring one of the UK's 69 fabulous cities. Great Britain's capital cities, London, Edinburgh and Cardiff are the top cities Britons want to explore this year alongside historic Bath and York.   

Interestingly due to the lockdown, over a third (36%) of Britons is taking a short break to see family and friends this year.

We are also seeing a growing trend in more Britons taking multi-location short breaks with a combination of a coastal, rural or city break.
