Wedding dress expert, Jane Scott from Jasmine Rose Bridal tells us what you should take into consideration when looking for the perfect gown.
Jane says: "Don’t be embarrassed or afraid to say what your budget is. We work with our brides to find them a dress they love within their price range. Most shops have sale rails of sample dresses which can offer great savings. The dresses are usually in perfect condition but need to be sold to make room for new stock. If time allows, some stores also offer an interest-free payment plan to help spread the cost.
"Be open-minded when it comes to style. Brides often come in with a fixed idea of the silhouette they want, usually because they’ve fallen in love with a picture in a magazine or on the internet. We see so many brides, all shapes and sizes, so allow us to guide you. We hear so often from curvy ladies that they must have an A-line dress because of their shape, which isn’t true. In the right fitted style, curvy ladies can totally rock!
"Wear clothes that are easy to take off for your appointment and please don’t worry about your underneath. A skin-coloured bra is good, but not essential. The most important thing is that you’re comfortable! We’re here to help you, not judge you.
"You should book your appointment around a year before the wedding. Some gowns can take six months or longer to arrive in store, so this will give you time to test and get alterations done. We recommend booking your seamstress once your dress is purchased as they get very busy, especially for summer weddings.
"If you’re looking for something on trend, look for a fuller dress. Back detailing is also popular, my personal favourite is little covered buttons. Lace is still here too, but brides are loving the secret sparkle layer we have underneath some dresses which adds a subtle twinkle. Brides choosing fitted dresses also love an overskirt which they can wear during the day and remove in the evening revealing two different looks."
