Wedding content creators, eco-conscious dcor and experiential dining: Hensol Castle in Pontyclun reveals top wedding trends for 2026.
Smaller guest lists, social media content creators, eco-conscious decisions and experiential dining are amongst the biggest wedding trends set to define 2026, according to the award-winning Hensol Castle wedding venue in South Wales. The historic castle, which hosts weddings throughout the year, has seen a noticeable shift in how couples plan their big day compared with five years ago, with modern weddings becoming increasingly personalised, experience-led and social media conscious.
According to Hensol Castle's wedding experts, here are the top wedding trends emerging for 2026 and beyond:
* The rise of wedding content creators - Couples are increasingly focused on capturing their day in ways that are perfect for sharing online. Alongside traditional photographers and videographers, many are now hiring dedicated wedding content creators to capture candid, behind the scenes moments designed for social media.
* Smaller and more intimate guest lists - Whilst larger weddings of 80 to 100 guests remain popular, particularly for couples welcoming travelling guests, there has been a noticeable rise in more intimate celebrations with around 40 to 60 guests.
* Weekday weddings gaining popularity - Thursday and Sunday weddings are becoming increasingly popular as couples look for greater flexibility with dates and better value when planning their celebration.
* DIY décor and personalised details - To balance budgets, many couples are creating their own décor, table plans and signage, adding a personal touch to their wedding while keeping costs down.
* Food experiences replacing traditional buffets - The traditional three-course wedding breakfast continues to be a favourite, but evening food is evolving. Couples are increasingly choosing interactive dining experiences such as fajita stations or live cooking rather than traditional buffet options.
* Sustainability shaping wedding planning - Eco-conscious choices are becoming more common, from biodegradable flowers to couples selling-on homemade décor after their wedding so that future couples can reuse it.
* Flexible fashion for bridal parties - Bridesmaids are increasingly wearing different styles or colours of dresses within the same palette, allowing each person to choose a look that suits them best.
* Elegant black tie weddings on the rise - Looking ahead, the team at Hensol Castle expects to see more couples opting for sophisticated black tie celebrations, combining timeless elegance with a modern approach to wedding traditions.
Laura Williams, wedding coordinator at Hensol Castle commented, "One of the most noticeable shifts we have seen in recent years is how couples are thinking much more holistically about the experience of their wedding day. Sustainability is becoming an important consideration, whether that is choosing biodegradable flowers, creating their own décor that can be reused by other couples afterwards, or simply being more mindful about waste. At the same time, the rise of social media has changed how couples want to capture their celebrations. Whilst professional photography and videography remain essential, many are now bringing in dedicated content creators to capture those candid, behind the scenes moments that can be shared instantly with friends and family. We expect these trends to continue well into the 2027 wedding season, and look forward to seeing what new trends emerge over the coming months!"
Set within the stunning South Wales countryside, Hensol Castle is one of the region's most sought-after wedding venues, offering an exclusive and historic setting for couples looking to celebrate their big day. The venue was recently named Wedding Venue of the Year at Cardiff's Style of the City Awards 2025.
