Over the past year, UK searches for 'first dance songs 2023' have increased by +4,700%, whilst searches for 'fun first dance ideas' have increased by +100% showing that more couples are looking for inspiration.

The first dance is likely to be one of the most memorable moments of your wedding, so naturally, newlyweds are determined to pick the most suitable song. A decision needs to be made whether to choose an old classic or maybe the new love song that's currently on the charts.

To help couples trying to decide on the best track to sway to, using Playlistminer to analyse 998 Spotify playlists found when searching for 'Wedding First Dance' life insurance broker, Reassured has revealed the top 30 first dance songs and a full list can be found here. But which artists and songs made it into the top 10 in 2023?

The list is as follows:
1 Perfect Ed Sheeran
2 All of Me John Legend
3 At Last Etta James
4 Thinking out Loud Ed Sheeran
5 Can't Help Falling in Love Elvis Presley
6 Everything Michael Bublé
7 Say You Won't Let Go James Arthur
8 Can't Help Falling in Love Haley Reinhart
9 You Are the Best Thing Ray LaMontagne
10 Stand by Me Ben E.King

Ed Sheeran's "Perfect" takes the first place, unsurprisingly, overtaking "Thinking Out Loud", which was number one in 2022. This means Ed Sheeran has actually got two songs in our top ten rankings! Coming in at fourth we have his song "Thinking Out Loud", which has fallen four places but still makes it into the top five.

Taking the second spot is John Legend's "All of Me", which he wrote in dedication to his now-wife. Apart from Sheeran, only one other artist made it on the list more than once, but just missed the top 10; the duo Dan + Shay who are listed twice with "From the Ground Up" ranking 13th and "Speechless" 16th.
Some other songs which made the 2023 list were In Case You Didn't Know by Brett Young (26th) and The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra, which claimed the 30th spot. Of course, the list wouldn't be complete without a few absolute classics like Elvis Presley's "Can't help falling in love" at fifth and Elton John's "Your Song" at 17th place.

Commenting on the study, Phil Jeynes, Director of Corporate Strategy from Reassured says: "Clearly, planning for your wedding day is a very special time and probably not when most people are considering their long-term finances. One in seven couples choose sleep over sex on their wedding night

As the UK's spring and summer wedding season begins, new research by Mattress Online suggests the traditional idea of a passion-filled wedding night doesn't always match reality, with one in six couples (15%) saying they did not have sex after their big day. To understand why, the bed experts also asked survey respondents what their reasoning was behind this. They also provided additional insight on the idea of the "wedding night" from Relationship Expert, Jenni Trent Hughes. The findings show that exhaustion was by far the most common factor, with more than two in five (44%) of couples saying they were simply too tired after the celebrations. As weddings often involve early starts, long days, emotional highs, and late nights, rest is a more realistic priority than romance once newlyweds are in bed.
