Find out more about local florist Far Hill Flowers.
How long have you been in the industry?
I started growing flowers in 2013. I didn't have an interest in arranging blooms until I attended a wedding fair and found I had a knack for it. The response from brides was wonderful. They loved my style and the fact that my products were organic, scented, fresh and local.
What's your favourite flower?
My favourite bloom tends to change with each season. In spring, I love ranunculi and sweet peas. I use long whips of them in most arrangements, as they add colour and interest. I grow new varieties every year, so I'm always falling in love with something new.
What do you love most about your job?
It's never boring, and there's lots of variety. Sometimes I work outside and visit venues or give demonstrations. Every day is different and calls on a variety of skills, which I find really interesting.
Which bridal bouquet have you loved the most and why?
This is really tricky as I love every bouquet. The one I remember the most was when the bride-to-be trusted me to go off-piece and create what I wanted. The client burst into tears when I handed it over and said it was absolutely beautiful and surpassed her wildest dreams. I was so relieved and trilled. The make-up artist wasn't too happy because she had to re-do the bride's eyeshadow.
Best tip for choosing your wedding flowers?
Go seasonal! Avoid flowers that don't naturally grow at the time of year you're getting married. These can be difficult to source and often lead to disappointment. Talk to your florist, as there are gorgeous alternatives on offer, such as ammi majus instead of gypsophila.
